Sharing Files Through an Internet Router?

I've got two Win XP (Sp 1) computers connected through a Belkin Router to
the internet. That works fine, but I'd like to share files between the two
computers using the router. (Ultimately to use XLR8 by Gridiron X-Factor
Software www.gridironxfactor.com that came with AE 6.5)

Can anyone tell me please what settings do I need in Win XP so the two
computers will talk to each other and how do I test it once the settings
have been set?

May I thank you all for your time and trouble.

Not sure I understand. If both computers are on the LAN, you don't
need to go *through* the router to use file/printer sharing between
them.....

See www.practicallynetworked.com, www.wown.com, www.pctechnicians.ca
for some help setting up home networks.

Well it's quite straight forward really. One computer is connected to the
router via it's own RJ45 and the other computer is connected to the router
via it's own RJ45 and the router in turn is connected to the cable modem.
Hence both computers are connected to the internet. No lan involved. But I
should be able to still share files? Right? How?

First step is to read the articles in "help" about setting up
networking. You'll learn about shares, permissions, system admin, etc.
Then run XP's Network Setup Wizard as a second step.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

OK - you aren't going through the *router*. That's what confused me. Your
router *also* has an integrated switch/hub, which you are both conected to.
There's your LAN - you have one already. Your router should be able to do
DHCP for you - sounds like it is if you're on the Internet ....

Put both computers in the same workgroup, share away using the instructions
given on the websites I referred to...
