Hi,
I don't know where else to post this question, so I post it in "General".

Could anybody help me step by step on how to share files? Or tell me where
to find some litterature I can understand. In all possible "help", it is
explained how to share a file in a computer with several users.

My problem is to share files on two computers connected in network through a
router, and I am the only user. I already created my folders in both
computers, went to "sharing and security" and checked "share this folder on
the network...." and "allow network to change my file" etc... I even went to
Computer management, but of course I am the administrator, and there is
nothing I can succeed to do. My folders stubbornly stay on the computer where
they were created.

Someone already helped me for some files, but I have nothing in written, and
I just cannot. It didn't seem so difficult yet!

I HOPE someone can help me once for all solve this problem.

Thanks a lot

When you set up your original network you must have named a folder where
files were to be shared. With both computers switched on, open your Start
menu and go into My Web Sites. There, under the heading of Local Sites, you
should find that folder. Files are shared through this folder - it can take
time and if you have a flash memory stick you might find it easier to just
copy files, but it does save a lot of fuss.

I suggest copying this into a txt file on your desktop for easy reference.

Designate a computer "Computer 1" and "Computer 2" just so you can keep
track of them as I explain this.

On both computers, right click on My Computer and select Properties, or, in
Control Panel, go to System. Click on the "Computer Name" tab. If you haven't
already, name each computer something different. It helps you keep track of
them. Then, hit the Change button under Workgroup, which is just below the
computer name. Make sure the name of the workgroup both computers are in is
the same. This step makes things a bit easier. Once you've done that, hit OK
until you get back to the System Properties window and hit OK there too. If
you're prompted to restart, go ahead and do it.

You need to do these things on both computers:

When you're back in Windows, take both computers and ensure that your
connection settings allow sharing. In Control Panel, open Windows Firewall,
and click the Exceptions tab. Make sure File and Printer Sharing is checked.

Hit OK in Firewall, and double click Network Connections. Choose the
connection you plan to use and right click it, selecting Properties. Under
the General tab, make sure File and Printer Sharing is checked here as well.

If you are promted to restart or log off, go ahead, but I don't think you
will.

Then, go to Start> My Network Places > Entire Network > Microsoft Windows
Network and choose the icon with the name of the workgroup both computer
belong to, double click on the 2nd computer's name, and there will be
displayed all the folders shared on that computer. To make getting to that
folder easier, right click the shared folder (the folder icon with a little
T-shaped wire coming out the bottom) and choose "Map Network Drive". Choose a
drive letter and hit OK. Now you can go to My Computer on Computer 1 and see
the shared folder on Computer 2 as if it were another harddrive.

Hi JH2215,

Thanks for your help.
So... Computer 1 is called (and already was) SUNFORCE and computer 2
SUNSCAPE. So far everything is ok

Network connections -> Files and printer sharing was not checked on
SUNSCAPE. Fixed now. Just it is not under general tab but under Networking.

Now I am lost :(

Start> My Network Places > I don't have Entire Network > Microsoft Windows
Network in either computer. Directly under My network places I have many files in SUNFORCE and many fewer in SUNSCAPE. And in none of these files I have "Map Network Drive" if I right click.

So I guess the big problem is there. How to solve it? Maybe I have no shared
file in SUNSCAPE :(

Thanks again

Ha Dizofoz, the flash memory might be a good idea!!!!!! although not very
technical. Thanks for that. I don't have My Web Sites.... another problem?

After such a huge job (some of the links don't open), MUST I HAVE THE FOLDERS
TO SHARE NECESSARILY IN MY DOCUMENTS???? I have a lot of them that I scanned
and are in the C:/scanner/photoshop. Is the problem there?

Thanks again for your help
