I cannot seem to figure out how to setup up my computers so that I can use
and access files from each computer. I have one computer running Windows
2000 and the other running Windows XP. Both Computers are connected to a
Linksys wireless router. I have shared the folder on the XP machine that I
want to access but I cannot open or access the computer from the Windows 2000
machine. When I try to view the computers on the XP machine that are in my
workgroup it never shows my Windows 2000 machine. Can someone please help me
out!

Thanks

You'll want to create an account (in User Accounts) on the WinXP machines
with the username and password that you use to logon to the Windows 2000
machine with. Likewise you'll need to create an account (in Users and
Passwords) on the 2000 machine with the username and password that you use
to logon to the XP machines with. Then you'll need to share out the
resource(s) with permissions for those users. Also make sure they're all
part of the same workgroup. Then you'll no longer be prompted for the IPC$
password (Inter-process communication)

In a peer level workgroup, when you try to access resources on a Windows
NT/2000/XP/2003 machine, Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 needs to authenticate the
user. If the user account doesn't exist in it's local account database, then
access will be denied.

When I try to access the netwok on my XP machine I get the following error
every time. "Workgroup is not accessible. You might not have permission to
use this network resource" I get that error every time I click view
workgroup connections.

Please help!

Thanks

Ok I have added a new user login to the Windows 2000 computer. For example
.... say on the windows XP machine the login is Willis. So I went to the 2000
machine and added the login Willis. I click on My Network Places, then I
click the "computers near me" icon then I try and click on the computer that
I am trying to access and I get the followign message. "Computer Name" is
not accessible. The network path was not found.

Any other suggestions.

Thanks

Also note that the passwords must match. Is 'File and Printer Sharing'
enabled for the connection on each machine?

On the WinXP PC, create local user account(s), with password(s),
that have the desired access privileges to the desired shares. Log on
to the other PCs using those account(s), and you will be able to
access the designated shares, provided your network is configured
properly. Also, make sure that WinXP's built-in firewall
is disabled on the internal LAN connection.

On the Win2K PC, create local user account(s), with password(s),
that have the desired access privileges to the desired shares. Log on
to the other PCs using those account(s), and you will be able to
access the designated shares, provided your network is configured
properly.

Usually, WinXP's Networking Wizard makes it simple and painless --
almost entirely automatic, in fact. There's a lot of useful,
easy-to-follow information in WinXP's Help & Support files, and here:
