shares shown as disconnected

I have a small LAN; nt server and 2K workstations.
when I open MY COMPUTER, often the shares are shown as
disconnected (red X thru the share)but there is no problem
connecting to the share, accessing files or running
programs. Can anyone tell me why this happens?

Server automatically disconnected to conserve resources. On a 15 minute
timer as the default. Can be adjusted in the registry if it is causing
problems.
