Sharepoint and themes

I applied a theme to my sharepoint site and now it's gone! Reading a few other posts, I have the impression that this was not a smart thing to do. Is there any way to undo the damage

Also... where did you apply it "from"?
Within the site administration??? or via FrontPage themes?
