Is there any way to increase the capacity of shared docs folder? I
want to backup a 10Gb file to it and it only has 6Gb of space.

Folders don't have a size limit. Hard drives and partitions do. If there is
not enough space on the drive to hold the file, there is no way to squeeze
it in without extra steps. You could delete some other files (perhaps move
them to CD or DVD first?) to make room.

Thanks.

I have some options open to me: shift a second drive over to the
computer which is being backed up, "improve" the network so that one
of the partitions on the other computer can be seen (favourite) to
receive the backup file, buy another hard drive and clone the master
on to it.

Thanks again for stopping me wasting time on the shared doc option.

Hi

I managed to "improve" the network so that from the second computer I
could see the partition on the first computer, but I couldn't write
the backup file to it. It kept telling me that I didn't have the
right privileges.

I consulted my power users book but all it talked about was auditing
privileges. How can I alter the privileges to all ow me to write to
the partition.

I'm doing it for a friend. He has XP Pro on both machines and a
switch device to communicate. The second machine has a 15Gb HDD and
13.5Gb is already used. I want to send the backup file to an empty
partition on the first computer.

Many thanks

Take a look at the following article. It is focused on XP Pro but there is
a link in the introduction for doing the same with XP Home if that is the
version of Windows involved.
