Shared Printer Performance

I have a user with an HP COlor LaserJet 8500n attached to their W2K pc,
and shared to the rest of the network. When one user prints to this
printer, it sucks the life out of the W2K pc until spooling is completed.

Is is possible to adjust the machine so that printing doesn't take it over?

Thanks.

Don't share the printer via MS Networking. Hang the printer off a HP JetDirect
print-server. In fact the "n" in 8500n means it is networkable. Most likely with an
internal HP JetDirect module. This is the *best* way to share the printer as there is no
computer dependency and users won't bog down the PC sharing it. All you have to do is
basically print to the IP address.

I have two dozen HP laser and inkjets and all of them use either an internal or external HP
JetDirect to share on the network. In my home, on my SOHO LAN, I practice what I preach and
my HP Business Inkjet 1100 has an internal JetDirect module.
