Shared inbox

My husband and I share an email addy. With Outlook Express on Windows XP we
used to be able to share our inbox. So it didn't matter which account you
were on when you read in the mail, it stayed there for the other to see. Now
that we've moved to Vista and Windows Mail, we can't seem to do this. If he
reads in the mail, he may get some messages that were meant for me and v.v.
We've tried synchronizing but that doesn't do anything.

Do you know if we can share an inbox and how to do it? Thanks.

You left out a couple of critical details.
Do you both use the same computer, and only that computer?
Do you have separate Windows user logins?

What do you mean by "it didn't matter which account you were on"?
I thought there was only one email account.

You'll have to edit the registry to get the accounts set to use the same
settings and database.

Tools | Accounts
Double click the account.
On the advanced tab check the box to leave a copy on the server and the box
below it.

This is my first 'toe in the water' using the MS Community forum and I got
the answer I was looking for after 2 minutes of surfing (and it worked)!
Thank you. Like many people, I am a Vista 'novice' and this is very useful
forum ...

Supplimentary to Franks comments regarding how to set up Windows Mail so
that two differnet acccount users, sharing the same machine but a single
e-mail address, can both have equal access to all e-mail in-box activity;
make sure that you check the box to 'Leave a copy on the server' but from
within each user acccount set up screens. This will ensure that, whichever
account holder logs on first to pick up e-mails, all in-box history will be
viewable by each individual account user.

You may also wish to note that, even if an individual account holder deletes
or moves an in-box message to a sub folder within their own Windows Mail
account, the e-mail is NOT deleted or moved from any other account users
in-box. In short, if you are not happy that other account users will see
e-mails sent specifically for your attention, then don't use a shared e-mail
address!

Lastly, in terms of Shared In-box, I would be cautious of pursuing DGuess's
solution of entering the Registry to set up the accounts to use the same
settings and databases. MS Help suggests that tweaking Registry settings is
only for 'Experienced Users' able to operate at a Program level and I
certainly don't qualify in that category ...... This would be a route to
explore, I guess, if you also wanted to establish shared access to Windows
Mail Contacts, Outbox and In-box subfolders, etc.

Hi, you have also solved my problem with accessing my yahoo email thru my
cell phone. I was getting frustrated and was going to look for a way to
delete this account and just go back to getting my email thru the yahoo web
page. Now to see how to set up the folders.

Thank You,

Laurie
