I'm a user of a machine runing winxp pro on the domain in a network.I shared
a folder on my machine for some users and they access this folder
anytime. When I shutdown the machine I don't get any alert that are users
connected to my machine acessing the shared folder.I want to enable the alert
so that when I wish shutdown the machine I can see the open connections and
don't shutdown the machine. Is there any setting that can be done on client
side to get this alert.

The "alerter service" must be running on server sending the alert and
"messenger service" must be running on the client. Usually alert is
automatic - messenger is not.

the shared folders are on my machine which is a client.People are accessing
this folder from their client machines.I have no rights on the server side
although the messenger service on the cleint side can be activated.
Why is the server service important in this case even though the folder is
on a client machine.pls advise.
Pls give some solution as people working on the shared folder loose their
work if I shutdown the machine.

I tried enabling both the services on both the clients but still I m not
geting this alert.
Can any domain policy be responsible for this.
