Shared folder in workgroup need authentication from domain

I have one server and a few PC in domain, then 2 PC in workgroup.
Certain folder in workgroup PC is shared out to "Everyone".

But when those users from domain want to access to it (shared folder in
workgroup PC), they're prompt with the authentication window to type in
user name and password.

Any idea what's the reason?
How could I resolve this?

XP Home, or Pro, on the workgroup PCs?
Does it work if they enter the appropriate local credentials?
If so, is that a real problem anyway?

Also...I'm sure I'm missing something, but since you have a server and a
domain, why don't you join all the computers to the domain and store all
your data on the server, and access it from there?

WinXP Pro version.
When the authentication window appear, entering the local credential
can get access to those files.

Just wondering is there anyway to avoid this authentication if one is
under workgroup and another is under domain.
