Remind me - how do I set up a workgroup (or domain?) in WindowXP?

Hi

Can anyone remind me how to create a domain (or workgroup??) in
WindowsXP Pro OEM ? (apologies for dumb question!)

Background
I have a laptop that I want to use at work and at home, sharing a
switch.
At home I have another PC that I want to be able to share data between
it and the laptop. I was hoping that I could simply set up domains
with the same name in both locations and with the same password. That
way I am hoping that I could take my laptop home without re-booting it
and just plug it in to the Ethernet cable at home and away ya go.

However, from memory you need to own Windows server to set up a real
domain... so could I just set up a Workgroup with the same name and pw
and would that work?

Either way how the heck do I create a workgroup (or domain) on my PC?

With thanks

Too late I found it !
Something about a wizard that lets you setup a home/office network.
So now within Windows Explorer I can see two PCs under the same
workgroup name...
BUT even though I have made the other PC supposed to be able to share
it's C: driver, when I try to select it within Windows Explorer it is
still saying that I dont
have permission and need to ask my Administrator.

Any thoughts?

You might try googling "Networking XP".

Also, try creating an account with the same username and password on both
systems. It doesn't matter if it's the account you use. And, be sure
your firewall software is set to permit local connections.

You do not need a password for a workgroup. The permissions are based on
local accounts, not on server/domain accounts.

If you're using a laptop that moves from network to network, you may need to
change other settings, such as default printers. If your Lenovo laptop is
a Thinkpad, look for Access Connections software, or its equivalent. This
will look after all those changes for you once it's set up.
