Shared Documents trouble in XP SP2

After installing XP SP2, I am no longer able to access the Shared Documents
folder. I get an "Access Denied" message.

Has anyone else experienced this? If so, how do you fix it?

This article describes how to take ownership of a file or folder
to which you have been denied access:

I had the same problem, along with a bunch of others. I don't like the
suggestion that you assert ownership of the folders you are now blocked from
opening; this solution depends on logging in as every user on the machine to
allow them access to the Shared Folders that they could accees *before* SP2,
right?

There must be a better way...

What was changed in SP2 that removed users from the Shared Folders ACL?
