share pop3 account

hi,

I am using Microsoft Exchange in the company and I am just adding the POP3
account in MS Outlook to enable the user to send internet emails. Now I want
to share one POP3 account between more than one exchange account. All users
in the department should be able to login and read the incoming & outgoing
POP3 message for that common account.

What a mess you'll have. It's very unlikely that all the users will be able
to keep the account settings straight -- especially the "keep a copy on
server" setting. And they'll have to remember to cc the POP account every
time (or use a rule) to get a copy of the outgoing message into that
account's Inbox for everyone else to read.

Since you've spent the money on Exchange, why would you want to introduce
the hassle of a shared POP account?

Thanks,

Can you please guide.. I am new with MS Exchange and I am using version 2003.

What I want it:

1. I have a department POP3 email account.
2. This account should be accssible for all staff in the department.
3. They should be able to reply to emails coming to this account.
4. They should be able to read inbox & sent items for this account.
5. All staff will also have thier own internal exchange account.

Many Thanks,
Jassim Rahma

Repeating: Why do you want a POP3 account when you're using Exchange? If you
want a departmental email account, create an Exchange mailbox and have users
add it in the Advanced properties of their Exchange account. You'll need
either a Cc rule for each person or an add-in from
http://www.ivasoft.biz/unisent.shtml if you want sent messages to also go in
that mailbox.

thanks,

what about pop3 incoming messages? how will it be downloaded to the exchange
user id? can it be done through exchange 2003? if not, what add-on you
recommend to use to download messages?

POP3 incoming messages from where? I'm beginning to wonder whether you've
set up your Exchange server to receive all the mail for your domain. The
Exchange docs explain how to do this. (It's not an Outlook issue -- post in
microsoft.public.exchange.admin if you have questions on it.)

Hi,

As told earlier.. All users in the company are connected to exchange 2003
but few of them has POP3 account. The POP3 account is configured localy for
each user in his outlook.

But because now I want more than one user to access the same POP3 I had to
ask the experts if I can configure it on the exchange or locally.

Why not get rid of the POP3 accounts and just use Exchange accounts? You
might find the information at http://www.slipstick.com/exs/popconnect.htm
useful.
