Shape only display in calendar in print preview mode, but used to

I created a calendar using Calendar template. I added shapes and text boxes
to the calendar. It was working for a while, but now when I open the file,
the calendar looks blank unless I change to Print Preview mode. why is this
happening? Is there some setting in Word that has inadvertantly been changed?

Look in Tools > Options > View. If the Drawings box is unchecked, check it.

Make sure that "Drawings" is checked on the View tab of Tools| Options and
that you are not in Normal view.
