sfc source location problems

Hi. Have researched this top to bottom, have the reg paths, all that. Ok,
xp pro, sp1. SFC- System File Checker. Problem- no matter where I have my
sp1 files, sfc refuses to recognize them. SP1- downloaded, I never had a cd.
As far as I know the xp directory is ok, it hasn't complained about this,
just the sp1.

Reg paths used-

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup

Since the explanation's of the source fields in the kb say the path has to
be a 'root' drive or network share, I've done this, but for the sp1, sp1 is
never recognized. I don't know what sp1 looks like on a cd, always had sp's
from msdownload, but I've tried putting sp1 into an i386 directory (?) but no
luck.

Since I've got the registry accounted for and by the kb am following the
path instructions, what's left? Neither putting sp1 at the root of my c:\,
making a local share for a \\server\path, OR, hosting on another machine
\\comp\share- works.

Anybody else run into this with sfc?

Thanks

This link should explain everything you need to know about the system file
checker.

Be sure that you are entering the command correctly, their is a "space"
between the c and forward slash that is easy to miss.
sfc /scannow

-Thanks for the link, had that, been there. Yeah, I've got the command line
right, thnx for the heads up tho. Being stuck on this doesn't make a whole
lot of sense, have covered this back and forth several times. Any idea's if
any services shut down would effect this? Running a highly tweaked machine
but can't imagine anything that's shut down would effect this, I can apply
sp1 manually all day. Haven't found anything new after covering that site
and the kb before I posted. Thanks for your reply.

Maybe the "windows file protection" is disabled? Easy enough to check.
