Hello. This is actually a WIN2K SP4 question, but I cannot find the forum for
it. I hope I can find help here:
A) I have run SFC, and after completing I found in the Event Viewer, that
there were 1590 files that could not be restored. Any idea?
B) Also, it puzzles me that theoretically with Service Pack 4, SFC should
not request, and I think I am correct, the original installation CD, as it
should direct itself to C:\WINNT\ServicePackFiles\i386, but it still
requires it!?
I have run SFC again after making changes in the registry as instructed in
this article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/222473/en-us and I quote the
relevant part here:
“The SourcePath value is located in the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup
Example:
If the I386 directory is at C:\I386, the SourcePath value would be C:\.
If the I386 directory is at \\Servera\w2kflat\I386, the SourcePath value
would be \\Servera\W2KFlat.
After you restart the computer, WFP and SFC /SCANNOW uses the new source
path instead of prompting for the Windows 2000 installation CD-ROM.â€
So I changed from D:\ to c:\, but alas, it still requires the CD!?
C) Also strange is that after I have made the change in the registry, it
does not log any SFC event in the Event viewer, so I do not know how the File
Checking procedure went.
Thank you for your help.
