Windows XP was already installed when I bought my computer. How do I run sfc
/scannow without the XP CD?

thanks,
Joe

You "point it" the same way you point Word to a document you want it to
open. You browse to that folder and subfolder.run sfc /scannow without the XP CD?

You have no option to "point it" anywhere. I wants the CD in the CD Drive it was installed from. My CD is in the drive and any time I run sfc/scannow it stats "Files that are required for Windows to run properly must be copied to the DLL Cache. Insert your Windows XP Professional CD-ROM now." Button options are Retry, More Information or Cancel. My Windows XP Professional CD-ROM is in the CD drive it was installed from, but when I hit Retry, It comes right back and tells the same thing! The only way out of it is to shut down or control-alt delete and repeatedly attempt to end the process. Any help from you guys would be greatly appreciated.

Greetings --

Has the CD Drive's drive letter changed (perhaps by the addition
of another hard drive, partition, or removable drive) since WinXP was
first installed? If so, simply edit the registry key
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup\SourcePath to
reflect the changed drive letter.

Appreciate your replys. The CD drive letter has not changed. This accured after installing the Windows updates. Maybe the will fix this flaw in the next update. Wonder if any of the Microsoft techs ever read this or any thread in these newsgroups?
