"scannow sfc"

Mary Rushing

Hello. I have two questions.
1. I can't run "scannow sfc" after writing it in the msconfig box. What is
"scannow sfc" for?

2. What is the point in backing up the boot .ini?

Thanks and have a wonderful weekend! - Mary

You got it wrong way round. The command is sfc /scannow, type in sfc/? to
see the options it stands for "system file checker" but you may need you CD.

Go to Start > Run and type: CMD , and hit enter.
In the resulting Command Prompt window type:
SFC /SCANNOW and hit enter. Have your Windows XP
CD available as it may be required to be inserted in the CD
drive.

Your use of italics somehow makes the forward slashes (/) invisible in your
post.

Not Me

Question 1: You have it reversed. Type "sfc /scannow' (less Quote
Markers] instead in either the "Run" box or any other "Command Prompt" box.
Question 2: The Boot.ini File is your Windows boot path. If you intend
to make any changes to it, back it up first since it is a vital file.

And what do you recommend I do if I do as you say and it asks for my (in
this case) XP Pro SP2 CD and I insert it (the one I created using
instructions to *integrate* SP2 with my XP Pro CD files) and it keeps
repeating itself asking for the CD.

I've even tried using an actual XP Pro SP2 CD.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,
Not sure what you mean. I wasn't using italics, well they are not in Outlook
Express Newsreader anyway. I responded by saying the command is "sfc
/scannow" which looks fine to me.

Neil,

Then it's me. For some reason OE-QuoteFix is showing ...sfc /scannow, type
in sfc/? as ...scannow, type in sfc? Only in italics. Hmmm.

Not your problem.

As a matter of interest, what happens when SP2 has been installed on
top of XPHome? Should I be inserting SP2 or the original XPHome disk?
