SFC /scannow Problem

II am running an freshly updated copy of Windows XP Home. For some
unknown reason the progress bar for SFC fails to initialize when I
attempt to operate the utility from the Run text window. What I do
get is a brief CMD or DOS screen that flashes briefly on my screen,
and then nothing happens. If I type CMD > and type sfc /scannow at
the command prompt, SFC will preform a file check. How do I get my
GUI progress bar back?

Might be a path problem. Use CMD /K in front of SFC /SCANNOW in the run
dialog box when running the command. This will force the window to stay
open and you'll see the error message.
