Try again but notice the space between sfc /scannow. If you do not leave
one empty space between sfc and / then you will get that notice.

Personal advice: avoid using sfc. Do a repair install, and connect to
windows update.

How to install and use the Recovery Console

Start the RPC Service
1. Click Start, Run

Type in: services.msc

2. Double-click Remote Procedure Call (RPC).
3. In the Startup type dialog box, click Automatic, click OK, and then restart your
computer.

NOTE: If the RPC Service is disabled, you may need to use the Recovery Console.

In Recovery Console

1. Type the following command: Enable RPCSS Service_Auto_Start
2. Press the Enter key
3. Type: exit
4. Press Return
The computer will now restart.

To do a system restore on a DEll computer when someone does not have a restore CD.

Run the Dell PC Restore Utility

1.. Power the computer on.

2.. When the Dell screen appears press and hold the Ctrl key on the keyboard, press the F11 key, then release them both at the same time.
The Dell PC Restore by Symantec window appears.

NOTE: Only press the keys one time, if you press them more than once you will receive a keyboard error and will have to start the process over.

3.. Click the Restore button.
A caution message appears advising that all data will be lost.

4.. Click the Confirm button.
The progress window appears.
When the restore is complete the message The system recovery process was successful. appears.

5.. Click the Finish button.
The computer will restart.

Your software is now back to the way it was when you first received your computer.
