SFC reporting corrupt files? Please help..

K

Kristan Kenney

Hello all,

When I run sfc /scannow from the command line using an administrative
command prompt, I receive the following output after Windows completes the
scan:

===
C:\Windows\system32>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 99% complete.Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files
but wa
s unable to fix some of them.
Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log
===

I have reviewed the CBS.log file to the best of my ability and don't see
anything that stands out. Should I be worried about this, or perhaps
reinstall Windows? I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate, 64-bit.

Thanks,

Hi,

Can you send me the cbs.log file? Use the email address posted here and a
subject line of 'per req' to get past the filters.

i have the identical situation as Kenney.

an ms tech, after three hours on the phone and with easy assist, finally ran
sfc /scannow, which produced the same results as Kenney reports. ms tech told
me, without further probing, to reinstall vista. this is not something that i
look forward to. so i, independently, ran sfc.exe /verifyonly, resulting in a
35MB cbs.txt.

I AM INCREDULOUS!!! -- the *only file* that cbs.txt reports as being
irreparable is ..... a windows true font called mingliu.ttc !!

i cannot believe that *this* is preventing windows firewall from operating,
or causing a problem with Ajax technology (used by gmail, eg).

i need an explanation -- this is becoming psychedelic!
