sfc doesn't work

My sfc won't work. I go to
run and put in sfc/scannow and it will start but it tells
me to put in my windows disk, in which I do. But then it
says wrong disk I need xp pro. I have xp home Ugrade
version. I did do like a friend of mine said. He is now a
tech, we had 98se. it was a new hard drive and he said
not to put 98se on it but to put the xp on it. he told me
about the drop down menu at the start, you know, full
install and I did. I did have to put in my key code for
98se. did that make a difference for sfc not to work?

What version of XP do you have installed? Is it Home or Pro? If you
have Pro installed somehow but yet only have a licensed copy of Home,
then you are not going to be able to do a SFC /scannow. The product
key code for Win98se has nothing to do with running SFC. You can't
run SFC because you do not have a CD for XP Pro which is apparently
installed on your machine.

Sounds like you might have a bootleg copy of XP Pro installed. Not
accusing you and I could care less, but you must have the CD available
from whatever version of XP that is installed on your machine in order
for SFC to work.
