Publishing problems front page 2003 February 3, 2007

Unable to publish either from FP 2003 or FP 2000 standalones : Either- Local to Remote- or vice versa.

Equipment: [Windows XP SP 2 ] [1 GB Ram] [Space on web server > 5GB] [Website involves data equal to 123 MB ] Computer associates Virus program] Firewalls on both the CA program and my Linksys router which is networked to my spouses computer] [ Remote website > http://latinmass.bravepages.com ]

I have not experienced this publishing problem with any of my previous versions of FP . An example follows:

I am contemplating in making [http://latinmass.bravepages.com] THE LOCAL WEBSITE

Choose [File] [Open Site] and in the "Name Box" : type [ http://latinmass.bravepages.com] [OK]

Enter: [User Name] & [Password] as requested.

[ http://latinmas.bravepages.com] appears on the screen with the complete folder list of htm. files ;Images; and Multimedia hymns.

Open [D:\ My webs/ latinmass published from remote Jan 31 2007 ] web

Click on : [ Remote Website]

[ Remote Website Properties]

Enable [File System] and Browse to the "Remote Website Location" box and the web folder [D:\ My webs/ latinmass published from remote Jan 31 2007 ]and [OK]

[ http://latinmas.bravepages.com] website now is relegated on the "Local Website" panel on the left and [D:\ My webs/ latinmass published from remote Jan31 2007 ] appears in the "Remote Site" panel on the right.

Enable [ Local to Remote ] and then press [ Publish]

This procedure will download the contents of [ http://latinmas.bravepages.com] - the designated "Local Website" - into my [D:\ My webs/ latinmass published from remote Jan 31 2007 ] web site- designated as the "Remote" website.

Error Messages:

After only 6 to 7 files being published ; the publishing procedure hangs...then the error message may be either "The server unexpectedly closed the connection."..or.. "Client closed connection"

My web server has never experienced this problem before and advocates FTP.

Consultation with Microsoft FP support teams in India after hours of "experimenting" with their remote control of my computer, was fruitless and punctuated with excuses

I am able to publish my locally situated web on my HD to an empty web on my HD with no problem.

Please help and I apologise for the lengthy dissertation.

Have you tried publishing the live site to a different folder on your hard
drive?

The local site needs to be:
D:\ My webs\latinmass

Note the changed slash. \

Also, a local disk based site can't have .com at the end, even if it's in IIS.

Your issue (if I understand it as you describe it ) is
You can start publishing, but it fails or aborts after several files are published

First of all, because of the bad publish events clear out your FP web cache
See http://www.95isalive.com/fixes/fpclean.htm

If that is the issue possible causes are:
- Check your web for any files over 1 MB
(many hosts have FP set to limit transfers to 1 MB)
- Find and delete any Thumbs.db files
(created from viewing images as thumbnails)
- Try turning off any software Firewalls you have
(or setting a rule to allow FP)
