setupqry.inf missing since SP3 install

Hi,

I tried to remove some Windows components yesterday via 'add or remove
programs', but I get the following error message:

'Setup is unable to find information file: Setupqry.inf. Error code: OX2 at
line 0'.

This only seems to be happening since I installed XP SP3.

How do I rectify this, as I can't uninstall Windows components.

Many thanks,
Jules

Try one of these:
1- System Restore to an earlier date.
2- If you have XP CD insert it in and run this command:
sfc /scannow

3- Search fir the file and you will find a copy here:
c:\windows\ServicePackFiles\i386\setupqry.inf
Copy it to this location:
C:\Windows\inf
Reboot after each step and try to access add and remove.

Hi Nass,

Thanks for helping out. I got one step nearer by copying setupqry to the
..inf folder as you suggested (I couldn't use System Restore as it would have
removed SP3 and a whole load of other stuff too).

I then tried add & remove again, and this time it came up with the error
message that it could not find setupqry.dll. I had copied this to
C:\WINDOWS\system32\DllCache, before trying again.

This time it gives the error message: setupqry.dll could not be loaded, or
function IndexSrv could not be found. The specific error code is: 0x7e.

Any ideas?

Hi Jules,
Try this:
Go to Add/Remove and uninstall SP3 and Reboot your machien and see if the
error will go away.
If it didn't try to run disk cleanup and this command:
sfc /scannow
Reboot after the running command finish.
HTH.
