setup.log in repair folder is missing / recovery disk

Hello,

While updating my ERD disk with ntbackup, I noticed an error
in the event log (ntbackup itselfs said that the disk was created
successfully).

Event Type: Error
Event Source: NTBackup
Event Category: None
Event ID: 8012
Date: 16.12.2003
Time: 11:04:11
User: N/A
Computer: SERVER01
Description:
The 'ESE API' returned 'Unable to perform the operation. Either you can not
connect to the specified server
or the service you are trying to connect to is not running.
' from a call to 'HrESEBackupRestoreNodes()' additional data ''

Therefore I checked my ERD and noticed the missing setup.log
file on the floppy as well as in the repair folder.

I checked event-id.net but those errors don't seem to fit
my environment. The KB article 175960 deals about missing
setup.log but I don't think it's good to simply create a "new"
log files cause many entries would be missing IMO.

Beside that, I'd like to know if my ERD is "useable" in an
emergency when the setup.log file is missing.

Any help is very appreciated.

Kind regards
/Ray

Hello,

After further investigation (checking the backup tapes) I noticed
that the setup.log was not missing but the explorer was hiding
system files (stupid misstake).

Anyway, I noticed differences between setup.log on server01
and server02 - it's read-only and hidden on server01, which
seems to be wrong to me. The setup.log of server01 therefore
still has the "last modified" from January 03 while the one
from setup02 dates from 28. November 03.

For test purposes I removed the read-only and made a
new ERD - the error in the event log still remains tough.

Kind regards
/Ray

Hello

Please ignore my two postings above. The Exchange System Manager is
installed on Server01.

From www.eventid.net:
As per Q306342, this behavior can occur if either of the following
conditions is true:
- Exchange System Manager is installed on a computer on which
Exchange 2000 Server is not installed. [..]

Sorry for the inconvenience.

/Ray
