My situation is this: I have 4 good running home networking all running xp 3
are desk top and one laptop. Using a ADSL modem. My problem is i need to on
my computer in my master bed room to share a connection to 3 computers. This
is my second time to post this issue but im sorry i forgot the first one. Now
i bought a ZyXel router with 4 Port Gateway and with 802.11g Wireless. The
supplier told me that i don't need anymore my ADSl modem which is only having
0ne RJ45 port and share the connection thru a switch. My worries is I don't
know how to set up my home networking using this ZyXel router which have
already 4 port. Please i need some website that can guide me..thanks a lot.

Hi

You need the ADSL modem (if currently the modem is connected to a switch you
do not need the switch any more). You did not indicate your modem's model,
if the modem is a Modem/Router Combo you should configure it as a Modem
only.

The Modem's single RJ-45 output should be connected to the Internet side
(WAN port) of the New Router.

The new Router should have 4 ports for wired computers, and can conneted to
many computers that have Wireless cards.

Configuring the Router should be done by following the Router's manual.

The whole thing should look like this,
http://www.ezlan.net/network/router.jpg.

This might help with the Wireless aspect.

Wireless - Basic Configuration: http://www.ezlan.net/Wireless_Config.html

Wireless Security - http://www.ezlan.net/Wireless_Security.html

Jack (MVP-Networking).

Thank you jack for your help I tried already the router that i bought to one
of my machine but I cant' connect to the internet following the setup wizard
thru the cd provided without using my ADSL MODEM with one RJ45 port. Now the
new router that I am planning to setup is ZyXEL prestige 660W/HW -61 over
POTS Series it says suport ADSL 2+ 4 PORT Gateway with 802.11g. They said its
a router combo. I just want to make sure if use this route, No need for me
to use my ADSL MODEM? Thanks a lot.
