I am installing Win XP Pro, on a system I have just
built. It formats and checks the HDD ok, and I get up
to the screen where it starts to load the
files, the one with the 5 squares in the bottom right,
and I get a fatal error, a componant setup needs is not
available, and the system stops here. can anybody shed
any light on this. It is a standard system, Athlon XP
CPU, 512DDr Mem, AGP card. All I can think of is when
installing, I have a PS2 keyboard but a USB mouse.Would
the USB mouse cause problems at all, as I suspect no USB
drivers have beennloaded as yet. Is there a KB article on

You try cleaning the CD? Perhaps the HAL you are loading
needs extra drivers.

Does it fail at the same place everytime? I have had this
a few times. I found out that faulty memory can cause
this problem. Try another memory module, or take one out
if you have 2 256mb.

Hope this helps,

Lee.

In my opinion all external perifs that need windows drivers to work
should be removed and/or turned off prior to installing.
