Dell 6300/4xXeon 500/2GB Memory/AMI Enterprise 1400 RAID (0-0 RAID 1 17GB 0-1
RAID5 69GB)/Intel 10/100 NIC/No other cards installed.
This ha really got me by the butt! No matter what I try to install (W2K
Server/W2K3 server) the installation fails at the same point. No blue screen,
no error message. The install runs along fine until the final stages o the
graphical portion of the install and then just r-goots and tries to restrt
the install. I have even let it try again and the same happens again.
It feels like a hardware problem, but i cannot be certain. I suspect
hardware or configuration since I have tried two different version of Windows
Server (2000/2003/2003R2) with the same results. I have reset all the memory
in the machine, rebuilt the SCSI RAID arrays, made certain that all the
firmware (machine and RAID card are up to date. Substituted another RAID
card, limited the memory available to setup. I substituted Xeon terminator
cards for two of the processors.
Setup.log reveals nothing since by the time I can look at it after a reboot
all it shows is that the install was restarted. I have also tried to let
Windows Setup tr to repair the failed install with no joy.
I do not know exactly what hardware is involved when setup is registering
components but suspect memory, and disk.components.
