Setup fails after reboot

Hello, I am installing win2000 on a computer with a new, blank hard drive.
The initial boot of the win2000 setup CD and hard drive format goes fine and
the first part of the setup works but after the computer reboots it says
error loading operating system and it stops. If you reboot and allow it to
boot from the setup CD it starts setup over again as if it were the first
time. Setup will detect the other partial installation of win2000 and it
can't repair it and if you allow it to go ahead and delete the other
installation and begin setup again you get the same results after system
reboot. I have tried booting with both floppies and the win2000 setup cd and
get the same results. Can anybody help or suggest what to do? I am stuck.

PS the PC is a no-name custom built.

Thanks

LBA stands for Logical Block Translation, a way for your BIOS to access the
hard disk. An incorrect setting in your BIOS could prevent your computer to
access the hard disk in an early boot stage.

Is BIOS set to boot from your hard drive? Is your hard drive configured to
be master on the primary channel of your disk controller?

Yes and yes-bios order is CD rom, floppy, hard drive. And there is only one
hard drive which is the master.

Thanks for the assistance.

Thanks for the suggestion. I thoroughly checked the BIOS settings and did
not see anything for boot sector protection.

'Error loading operating system' occurs when there is no active partition.
Check it with regular fdisk.
Partition can be not marked as active during setup if BIOS improperly
recognizes HDD or MBR is damaged.
