setup error

anyone know what this may mean

an error occurred while setup was updating partition
information on: 17258 mb disk0 at IDd 0 on bus 0 on atapi
(mbr) setup cannot continue.



i am trying to start clean on a ibm thinkpad and
formatting it.

Only one other instance of this error was documented internally and it was
an old motherboard BIOS, check that first.
