I am trying to setup an ethernet cable connection between my PC and laptop so
that I can play multiplayer games with someone without being on the internet.
The laptop and PC are both less than 6 months old and both run windows xp. I
have tried using windows help and video lessons but my laptop will not
"Connect directly to another computer" in the "Create a new connection"
wizard. I have also tried using the "Network setup wizard" with no help. Can
someone please give me some advice on what I am doing wrong and what I can do
to fix this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is getting
extremely frustrating.

To connect two PCs directly with an ethernet cable you need a Cross-Over
cable, is that what you have? You might find this site useful:

Yeah, I am already using a a Category 6 Ethernet Crossover cable. Do you
have any other suggestions for how I can get my laptop to "directly connect"
with my pc in the "Create a new connection" wizard? Your help would be much
appreciated.

You should have said that in the first place. ;-) Not that you need CAT6
cable but it doesn't really matter.

Do you have any firewall installed or activated on either machine? If you
do then you should disable or uninstall them while you set-up the
connection. Are these PCs just being connected to each other (i.e.e they're
not connected to the internet as well, are they?)? If they're just
connected to each other, have you given the fixed IP addresses? If so are
they both in the same subnet/mask?
