Settings not saved on restart

I run Windows XP Pro SP3, and every time y restart (reboot) my HP Pavillion,
my selected toolbars [Quick Launch and Dektop] disappear and have to be
reinstalled manually. Also in my Start menu, some items appear duplicated
and my Internet connection is lost. Thank you beforehand for your help.

You might try more of Kelly's fixes, those related to the Taskbar. But
you're losing connection settings too, so I suspect that the identity is
damaged. First, as a test, disable ESET NOD32 Antivirus and its
firewall if it has one, and restart the computer. Did you lose the
toolbars again?

Create a new identity and see if that helps. If so, there's a way to
copy the old identity settings to the new one.

Control Panel, User Accounts, Create a new account.
