We use only Windows Mail for our E-mail service BUT for some reason when we
click on a e-mail address on a web page it opens up Word or Outlook and has
the e-mail address already listed for composition.. We want it to
autmatically compose in Windows Mail, can anyone tell me where this setting
is?? Thanks in advance

'Control Panel|Default Programs|Set your default programs', set Windows Mail
to be the default and be sure it has all its defaults chosen for it. You
will have to repeat this process every time you receive an Office/Outlook
update from Windows Update, Microsoft Update, or Office Update because these
updates have the nasty habit of resetting the defaults back to Outlook;
you'll have to keep an eye on this

Perhaps Microsoft should be the ones to keep an eye on this and fix it so
that it's not a global setting but different for the individuals that log
on. In my household, my husband uses Outlook for e-mail, but the kids and I
use Windows Mail. Before we had to upgrade the computer, we used Outlook
for the household general e-mail (and I could access the same e-mail PST
file when I logged on to my personal username), and I used OE for my
business e-mail and the kids used OE for theirs. I need it to default to
Windows Mail. He needs it to default to Outlook. Microsoft needs to fix
the problem.

If you have separate Vista login accounts for you, your husband & the kids,
then each login can have a different default email program.

That won't solve the problem. If the user logged in has Windows Mail as
their default, but happens to get an Office update, the default will be
shifted to Outlook quite without their permission.

Indeed, Microsoft should fix this and I guarantee you there isn't an
Office/Outlook/Windows Mail MVP on the face of this planet who hasn't
complained to them about it...so far, these complaints have fallen on deaf
ears.
