Setting up Windows Mail

C

Cindy

Can you help me separate my email from my boyfriends email messages? On our
old computer we each had passwords to get into our mail and it was set up as
separate identities. We just bought a new computer and the email was setup
in such a way that no passwords are needed and all the mail dumps into one
box. I think I need to establish separate identities but I'm not sure.

HELP!

The Identities feature was removed from Windows Mail, you have to use either
separate Windows User accounts, or set up Message rules to direct mail to
different folders.

Or get a program to restore the Identities feature, but it is not free:

Windows Mail doesn't have identities or a password option....
Windows Mail puts email from all accounts into the same Inbox, and there's
no setting to change that. When you send a message, you can select which
account to send from, by clicking on the From: box.

Here are a few alternatives...

1. Create folders for each email account and create message rules to move
email addressed to each account into the appropriate folder.

2. Create and use different Windows Users, each with WM accessing only
their email account. (This is how you set a password to keep other users
out.)

3. Use the newer Windows Live Mail which has separate folders for each
account:

4. Purchase WMIDs which adds identities to WM

Four possibilities:

1. Use different Windows Users

2. Make new folders and make a message rule like this:

Apply this rule after the message arrives
Where the message is from the mail.fjsmjs.com account
Move it to the fjsmjs folder
and Stop processing more rules

3. Use Windows Live Mail which has separate folders for each account:

4. Buy WMIDs http://www.oehelp.com/WMIDs/Default.aspx

I have set up message rules in WM with separate named folders under
Inbox i.e Charlie Mail and Helen Mail but it is still dumping both our
mail into the Inbox gneral. It's like it won't go past the Inbox into
the subfolders. Why is this happening can anybody help?

Charlie

Make sure that the rules include the action "Stop processing more rules" and
that they are at the top of the list of rules.

Your folders shouldn't be under the Inbox, they should be under the Local
Folders.

Outlook Express would become unreliable if you saved too many
messages in Inbox, or a folder under Inbox.
I don't think Windows Mail suffers from that weakness.

In OE a folder 'under' the inbox is really a separate file.
In Winmail a folder under the Inbox is really a separate folder.
In neither case will it cause a problem.

I just don't think it makes sense to put folders under the Inbox. I think
they should be in parallel with Inbox in Windows Mail. In WLM, I put my
folders under Storage Folders.

IMHO, Inbox, like Outbox, is a temporary holding place for messages until
you move the ones you wish to keep to a different location.

It's kind of like snail mail... I don't see anyone keeping a file cabinet
outside beside the mailbox to store stuff in. I bring my mail inside, throw
away the junk mail, separate the bills, etc. into different piles. I keep my
mailbox empty.

Maybe it's just me..... ;-)

I suppose from a Purist view, a 'Saved' folder needs to be at the same
folder hierarchy level as Inbox, especially if you accumulate so many
saved emails that you need to put them in sub-categories.
WLM sort of enforces this policy by having the separate 'Storage
Folders'. Another aspect of WLM that encourages this separation is
the fact that deleting an account (even temporarily) deletes all the
folders (and emails) associated with that account.

I don't consider this a lack of feature or even a serious shortcoming.
You do get warned about the imminent loss of account folders when
you try to delete an account.
It is easy enough to move the folder contents temporarily to a safe place.
WLM is organized differently than WM (or OE), and will take a little
getting used to. It has a very tight integration between a mail account
and the associated account folders.

What exactly does "won't let me" mean"
If there is an error message, copy it and post it here.
The error message should tell us if your ISP is prohibiting
the send.

Hi everybody got a new problem today. My Windows Mail won't let me send
an email with a compressed and zipped power point presentation. Now this
file is less than 4 megs, so if it came in from my works email why won't
it send?

What is your mail provider's message size limit?
