Setting Up Password for Web Server

Jim

I am trying to set up and save a password in XP Pro so that I can then save
it in FrontPage 2003. Currently I have to retype my password in FrontPage
every time I want to publish a Web even though FrontPage has a checkbox for
"Remember my password".

Under Stored User Names and Passwords I have the Web site saved as
www.domain.com. XP Pro won't allow me to save the Web site as
http://www.domain.com. Under Login Information Properties, the same
www.domain.com appears and the User name is also saved in there.

What I can't seem to figure out is what name to put in the "Password" box in
Login Information Properties. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I must be missing something here.
You put in the password that corresponds to the account
you have entered in the username field.

Hi Roger,
This is new to me so please be patient. I don't think a password was ever
created for me
in XP Pro. Is that possible? I looked in User Accounts and there are two
accounts set up. One says, "Jim-Computer 02,
Computer Administrator". The other says, "ASP.NET Machine A...Limited
account, Password protected". I don't know anything about ASP.NET account.

There is also a link on the User Accounts page to "Create a password". If I
click that link, it brings up a screen with "Create a password for your
account" with three blank fields: 1. Create. 2. Confirm. 3. Hint. Is it
possible that a password has never been created for me? What I should do?
Just type a password of my choosing in the field for Jim-Computer 02,
Computer Administrator? Can I safely delete the ASP.NET Machine A...Limited
account? Thank-you.

The Asp.Net account us used to support use of Asp.Net (doh)
server-side technology for authoring dynamic web content.
It is harmless to retain it, and you may want it. It is not needed
for serving Asp but it is for Asp.Net.

Yes, setting a password will probably be the trick, as XP will
refuse network-based logins by accounts that have no password.

Thanks. Then will the password I choose make any difference? I have one
assigned to me by my host to get into the admin area for the server. Should
I use that one? Another words, does the password for the host account have
to be the same as the one for FrontPage?

For those things you would need to clarify with your host.
They can be either the same or different depending on how
they provide their hosted environments.
