I have a Win XP pro system. Once in a while I'll get an 'access denied'
or 'unable to create' message. I'm assuming I don't have complete
rights to do everything on my system.

I signon as administrator, but there must be more that I have to do.

I tried to install a software package today and it failed because it
could not create a file in a directory. The software vendor told me I
didn't have the proper security settings.

Advice?

Thanks,
Tom Allen

XP PRO: In Windows Explorer, go to Tools, Folder Options, View and uncheck
Use Simple File Sharing. Now, when you right click on a drive, folder or
file (on an NTFS partition) and select Properties, you'll see a Security
tab. Here you can assign or deny permissions based on user name or user
group membership.
