Hello,
I am looking at buying a hard drive to setup a pc (all other
components are installed), could someone please tell me what I would need to
do to get the drive formatted etc? I have my copy of XP to hand, but little
else...

Hi,

Set the jumpers correctly and attach to the IDE cable. Do not use any
manufacturer setup software, simply install the drive in the system. Boot
the system with the WinXP CD and run setup. After the license agreement,
there will be an option to create and format an installation partition.

Just boot from the Windows XP CD (change the BIOS boot order if
necessary to accomplish this) and follow the prompts for a clean
installation .

You can find detailed instructions here:

or here http://windowsxp.mvps.org/XPClean.htm

or here http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/clean_install.htm
