Setting up a home network

I need a bit of help in setting up a home network.

Here is my set up.
I am on cable. The cable is connected to the modem which is connected to
another cable and then to the linksys wireless access point router. There is
a cable from the router that goes to my main computer which runs Win2000Pro.
I plan to add one more computer to the cable portion of the router but that
is in the future. I also have two computers running XPhome that share the
internet connection via wireless devices.

What I want to do.

Share files between computers.
Share printers between computers.
Connect to my computers from a wireless access and share files, print
documents, and run programs.

What type of network do I need to set up?
What do I need to set up first on the 2000 machine?
Where may I find info on this that is more understandable than the windows
help section?

Hello this is a very simple answer, from what i have gathered you have a
cable modem, cable router and 1 computer wich you want to be connected
with CAT5e cable and two with Wi-Fi.

Presuming that you have a wired router you can simply plug in a wireless
access point and the single computer - set them all up to use the
interenet wich is pretty straight forward. Next you need to set all of
the computers to be part of the same workgroup, using controll pannel
this is again straight forword. And hey presto! YOu have a network,
albeit vey basic, you can now access the internet and see each computer
on the network!!!! (hopefully.... networking is a funny thing and it may
take a bit of a fiddle.... - use this newsgroup if anything goes wrong:)

Next you need you share files and printers, providing File and Print
sharing is enabled (wich i belive is a default setting) you can simply
right click a File then click the Sahring tab, give it a share name and
maybe even a pass word, click apply and hopefully on the other machines
you should be able to connect to that folder (either using netwokr
neighbourhood or my network places (Xp))

Any Problems, go back to the Newsgroup :):):)

I think that I can follow those instructions. My last question is about how
to set up the network so that I can access it outside of the network from the
internet.
