Setting speaker icon tone

When you adjust the slide bar of the speaker icon on the
task bar, I use to get a "ding" tone coming from the
speakers, with the volume correspond to whether I am
sliding it up or down.

I don't know what caused this, but now, when I adjust the
slide bar, I get the "beep" tone coming from the computer
itself, with no volume difference no matter which way I
go. The volume coming from the speakers do adjust
accordingly.

Everything else work fine.

Do anyone know how to change this?

I've got the same problem. I've tried just about
everything including uninstalling all sound drivers and
audio codecs, and deleting or changing registry keys.
Still, nothing fixes the problem.
