Setting desktop options with RDC Web Connection

D

David P. Lurie

RDC from home to office has acceptable speed, even though tunneled through a
VPN.

Now need to access from outside the VPN, using RDC Web Connection, as the
other location has minimally configured XP Pro workstations for security
reasons. RDC is unavailable.

Screen size appears to be the only option that can be set in RDC Web
Connection at logon:

1) Need local resources, with local printer access the only feature needed
now.

2) Need to disable background, and set some other speed-related options, as
the web connection seems to have slower throughput. If all else fails, can
add a new user with no wallpaper on desktop as partial workaround.

Thanks,

David P. Lurie

You can disable the desktop wallpaper for all clients using a Group Policy. On the host, run
'gpedit.msc' from the command line and look at "Local Computer Policy ->
Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Terminal Services" for the policy to "Enforce
Removal of Remote Desktop Wallpaper"....

Personally I configure all of my XP Pro boxes to not display the wallpaper while in an RD session...

As far as printers are concerned, edit the C:\Windows\web\tsweb\default.htm file so the following
line is TRUE... note that this should be TRUE by default.

MsRdpClient.AdvancedSettings2.RedirectPrinters = TRUE

I am getting a "Remote Desktop ActiveX control cannon be installed..." Error on one of my win 2000 machinces when trying to connect via web to our win 2003 server. I don't get this error with other machines and I added our IP to the trusted sites and checked the activex settings in the sercutiy policy to "enable"...any other ideas?
