Setting Background Image.

G'day. I am using FP 2003. I right click on Page Properties, but I have no
option to set a page background

Here are the instructions from FP Help:

Add a background picture to a Web page
Show All
Hide All
1.. In Page view, at the bottom of the document window, click Design
..
2.. Right-click the page, and then click Page Properties on the
shortcut menu.
3.. Click the Formatting tab.
4.. Select the Background picture check box, and then click Browse.
5.. Locate and click the file that contains the background picture
you want, and then click Open.
6.. If you want to add the picture as a watermark (watermark: A
semi-transparent image often used for letters and business cards. In
currency, a watermark is visible when you hold a bill up to the light.),
select the Make it a watermark check box.
Note If the current page uses a theme (theme: A theme applies a set
of coordinated graphic elements to a document, page, or across all pages in
a Web site. Themes can consist of designs and color schemes for fonts, link
bars, and other page elements.), this feature is unavailable.


NOT... I have no Formatting Tab. I've even added a Blank Page (with no
theme) but I cannot find any Formatting Tab, nor do I have any menu options
to allow me to add a Background Image.

Any ideas???

One way to add a background image is to go to HTML View (or Code View or
whatever it's called in 2003) and where you see <body> change it to <body
background="mypicture.jpg">.

That's what I eventually did. My confusion is why I don't ahve any Menu or
Page Property option to set a background?

Normally you will not see those options if you have a theme applied to your site.

I wasn't aware of this. I have another site that has a theme, and I can use
the GUI to apply a background image. Just this site won't allow me to.

???

And what are the 'not normal' conditions under which the background option
is greyed out? I cannot apply a background image to my page or to a table. I
have even created a new, empty web, with a new blank page (so, NO theme),
but I still am not allowed to apply a background image. What should I
change? (I'm not going to meddle around in the HTML as that really renders
the use of FrontPage irrelevant).

You should always have access to applying a page background image, unless you have applied a theme.

You will not see the option to applying a table background image if you have your browser settings
set to include N4 browsers, set it to custom and then it is up to you to know what will or will not
work in various browsers.

Couldn't agree more: "You should always have access . . ", But somehow my
system does not work that way, and I have satisfied the condition 'unless
you have applied a theme'. So what else is likely to prevent a background
being applied?

Nothing to a page
(right click the page for page properties - formatting)
- if no theme is applied to the site/pages
- and the page has valid html w/ a body tag in it

For table you must set Tools Page Options Authoring
Browser version to 5/6 & Schema to IE 5
