You can't log on to the Domain when your not attached.
You can log on to the Computer, assuming you have
a user account on it.
Hope this helps

Gulper,

Thanks for your reply. I don't really want to logon to the domain when I am
not attached but need to set up the account on the computer ready for use
once the user is plugging into the domain network.

Ok assuming the "computer" is already a member of the domain
you really only need to setup a new user account on the Server
and the new user simply logs on from the "computer"
with User name-password-domain. Use the drop down box
to choose the domain. if no drop down box then your
computer is not a Domain member.

If the "computer" is not already a member of the Domain
You have to be connected to the network to do this and
logged on as an Admin.
Right click My Computer\Properties\Computer Name
You will see here if it's setup for Workgroup or Domain.
If Domain read previous paragraph.
If workgroup, click on Change then Domain, type in
the Domain Name the OK

then you will be asked for an Admin name and password
from the server i.e. a server admin name and password.
After a short pause you will get a welcome to the Domain message.

Go back to paragraph 1.
Hope this is what you need.

Gulper,

Please forgive my poor English leading you mis-understanding my question.

I am outside the office lan and need to configure a new Windows xp pro
computer to logon a domain network in our company. The user has an account
on the domain. Once I send the computer to our office, the user is ready to
logon the domain network after enter the correct password. So far I cannot
find any document related to this scenario and I need to configure the
computer within the company network. I am sure if Windows xp pro is
designed not to allow it or not. Any idea?

Thanks,

Ray

Hi Ray
You English is excellent, computing issues are
are difficult to explain using written words.
Lets see if I've got it right this time.
You are outside the lan so not connected, correct?
You need to configure the new XP computer to allow
a user to connect to the Domain , correct?
You can't. You have to be connected on the lan to
do this. Sorry. Unless anyone else knows something I don't.
