set up a domain.local

Hi, I work for a college and I have to set up local domain for a portion of the LAN (domain.local). I will be running AD and DNS on a Win Srv 2003. Our current infrastructure uses Novell Netware DNS servers for our domain. I have a static public ip reserved for the DC and I am concerned on how the clients (which are on a private address space) will be able to talk to the DC without making an extensive modification of the current DNS infrastructure. How do I configure the DC as far as DNS goes? Do the clients have to be configured to point to the Windows DNS or the main DNS? Presently, they get dynamic ips from the DNS/DHCP server which is a Novell box. Please give me some detailed info regarding this matter

Thanks in advance

Getting this to work could be fairly easy or complex, depending on how much
control you have over the clients and the Novell DNS/DHCP servers. If you
have a relatively small number of clients, you could use static IPs. You
need to make sure these IPs are excluded from the IP range handed out by
the Novell DHCP servers.
The DC/DNS server in your domain needs to point to itself for DNS so that
it can register the SRV records for the domain. The clients in the domain
also need to point to this server for DNS. You will want to configure
forwarders on your DC to point to the Novell DNS servers.
