Set Page

Hi

I have published my website but wanted to know if I have to do something
within front page to set the page to avoid text moving. I have noticed when
I view my page on the web if I for example I have the favourites menu open
down the side, then this makes the web site appear squashed and the text
cannot be read properly. In normal maximisd view the web site appears fine.
Not sure what Im doing wrong but I hope someone can help?

Dear Jo,

Your text is 'moving' because the browser window is attempting to adjust the
width of your text area. In defining widths, it's best to use percentages%
(flexible) rather than the numbers (fixed) , because, then, the browser can
adjust the width of the text, keeping the design of the page in tact.
However, whether you use percentages or numbers, you must understand web page
layout standards so you don't assign too large a percentage or number to the
width of text areas, resulting in your web page design being comprimised.

Here's a good article to help you understand text width in browsers:

http://webdesign.about.com/od/webdesign/a/aa080904.htm

It recommends the fixed width to be between 400-760. I recommend a maximum
width of (750 :). Experiment with the widths if you need to and test the
results in your browser. Regardless of fixed or flexible widths, the browser
will attempt to adjust the text to fit in the window and different browsers
vary in their methods of doing this. Using fixed or flexible widths, you can
CONTROL how the browser does this, insuring that the resulting width or
height adjustments don't comprimise your web page design (throw the text
completely out of wack :).

Let me know if you need more help.

Thanks for the link Murray, but I think the problem may be that Im using
autoshapes to create a shaded edge around the top and left hand side of the
page. Do you know if there is an alternative way of creating these borders
with shading using fill effects?
