I attempted to open an attachment and was told I needed to create an
association in the Set Association control panel. I've not done this before
and would appreciate any help offered.

If you save the file to your desktop and then double-click it from there,
Windows will ask what program you want to open it with. If you tick the box
that says always use this program for this type of file, Windows will set
the association for you.

Beware, though. There's a good reason why windows doesn't behave this way
for email attachments. After you've saved the file to your desktop (or your
Documents folder or anywhere else), make sure you right click it and scan it
for viruses (using your antivirus program; you do have one, right?) before
trying to open it.

Which file type are you trying to open, Gary?
