I see that there is no service called messenger on vista. I also see
that there is an option for creating a service. is there any way I
can copy the messenger service into vista from XP? Or a version for
vista that I can download? Any other way to get a messenger service
on vista? Whatever you can come up with.
Thanks

Yes, there is no Messenger service for Vista. No, you cannot install the
Messenger service from XP to Vista, as it doesn't work that way for
services.

This is going to be as close as you're going to get with sending a message
from one machine to another with Vista involved.

Mr Arnold is correct, you cannot install the Messenger service onto Vista.

If you have Vista Business, Enterprise or Ultimate Editions, you can use the
built-in "msg" command to send messages to other machines. Type "msg /?' for
syntax. msg is not available in Home Editions.

Hope it helps,
