Services - Won't Start

L

LJK

Hi -
I have 2 services that won't start:

Application Management
Human Inter. Dev. Acc. Serv.

The location is listed as the same for both:
c:\windows\system32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs

I've found that svchost.exe IS THERE where it
should be - so why the "Specified module could
not be found." error message while attempting
to re-start these?

Thanks,
El

p.s. There are also 2 instances of svchost.exe listed as
processes under SYSTEM and 1 as LOCAL SERVICE, too!

Can you locate the relevant Error Reports in Event Viewer and post copies?

Make an exact note of the precise text of any error message. Minor
discrepancies can
make it harder to search for information about the error message.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools, Event
Viewer.
When researching the meaning of the error, information regarding Event ID,
Source
and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&Product=winxp

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you should
double click
for further information and you can copy using copy and paste.
http://go.microsoft.com/fw.link/events.asp
(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double click
on the
error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button resembling
two
pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now start your
message
(email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This will paste the
info from the
Event Viewer Error Report complete with links into the message. Make sure
this is
the first paste after exiting from Event Viewer.

Hi -
Can you locate the relevant Error Reports in Event Viewer
and post copies?

Yes, both error messages were basically the same:
Source: Service Control Manager
Event ID: 7023
Description: "The [Human Int. Dev. Acc. / Application
Mgmt.] service terminated with the following error: The
specified module could not be found."

The Help & Support suggestion was to run:
sc query [service name]
at the command prompt; which I'll try later today.

I also am running xp home, sp 1 - a list of fixes for sp2
was also given, so perhaps that has something to do with
it. [Am nervous about getting sp2, though!]

These messages extracted from Google have me wondering!

http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=...oq=Human%20Int&safe=images&ie=UTF-8&lr=&hl=en

On my own machine the Human Interface Device Access service is disabled. The
Application Management service is set to Manual. What are the settings on
your machine? Start, Administrative Tools, Services. To change the settings
right click on the service and select Properies. If not already disabled try
disabling the Human Interface Device Access service and see if both errors
cease.

Human Interface Device Access
You may not have any peripherals that require this service. If one of yours
magically does not function anymore, set it to automatic. Namely, scanners
with function buttons (fax, copy) or even an "Internet" keyboard with volume
or play controls.

Default XP Pro: Disabled
Safe Setting: Disabled

Dependencies:

What service Human Interface Device Access needs to function properly:

What other service require Human Interface Device Access to function
properly:

a.. None
