Hi,
We have a Windows 2000 Server Service Pack 4 running IIS on it. For the
last 5-6 weeks ( I actually dont know when the problem started) we have been
noticing that certain things freeze up on the server. The things that get
frozen often are
Clicking control panel -- freezes
Clicking windows update -- freezes (Cannot even browse to msn or
microsoft.com)
Clicking Search for files and folders function -- freezes.
Initially we suspected that it is the excel.exe in the task manager that is
causing this. We thought that some process in the ASP code creates and does
not clean up a excel file that leaves it running on the server which is
causing this. However our assumption turned out to be wrong. Even with no
excel.exe running in task manager the above mentioned functionalities
freeze. We have confirmed that this is not a bad video driver issue.
One more thing worth mentioning is that this problem goes away after we
reboot the server but then returns back after a couple of days (like 2
days). Can any of the MVPs, please point us what the problem might be and
how we can resolve this. This is effecting our ability to install the .NET
frame work on the server.
Thanks
Meher
