What exactly is the function of Services.exe?
Every now and then I get queries from my personal firewall
whether I want the services and controllers app to accept
connections from the internet.
I suppose I'd rather answer no but I would like to know
what I'm doing and why.

Thank you for some explanation.

Services.exe is a system file that starts, stops, and interacts with systems services (such as print spooler, RPC, etc). It is a necessary process. However, there have been instances of a viruse posing as this file. Just make sure your virus software and defs are up to date. adaware 6 is free anbd good for checking for spyware.

hope this helps

Thank you for your time.
I run AdAware regularly plus Virus def is up to date. If under these
circumstances services.exe asks to accept internet connections, you
seem to deem this suspicious?

I have a similar setup and occasionally get similar requests. I regard
these as as an invasion attempt and always reply "no". Services.exe needs
to connect to the Internet but so far as I can see has no need to accept
connections.
