Service vs. Application (-Cobian Backup)

It says that "Cobian Backup" can run as "application or service". What
exactly does this mean? Obviously I know what an application is. But what is
a service, and what is the advantage? Thanks.

A service is something that runs in the background without you seeing it.

To see your services, click Start, Run, type services.msc.

Hi,

An application is something you generally would initiate or schedule to run.
A service is something that installs and runs "behind the scenes" - kind of
a way of automating the process so you don't have to think about it much.

Thanks for the answers. It's much simplier than I thought.
